The best website dedicated to my red 1988 Mazda 323 SE sedan hybrid... ever!

What's new

4/03/03

I'm selling my barely used smoked headlight covers on Ebay.  The auction ends the 9th of April.  Bid early and often.

James B. sent me a couple more pictures of his sweet black '88 GT.  There's some good pics of his front spoiler that he got from a VW Jetta and of his aftermarket intercooler.  You can find it on the Other 323s page.

Congratulations to Abhay Santos for winning my "DOHC 16-V TURBO" decals on Ebay.

I had my car for sale in the local paper for $2000 U.S. a couple weeks ago.  I had a few calls but no one wanted to come by and take a look at it.  I'm I asking to much?  Maybe.  If any of you guys are interested let me know.

I'm selling 2 OEM GT/GTX decals on Ebay.  They say "DOHC 16-V TURBO" on them.  The bidding starts at $14.99 and the auction ends on the 19th of March.

Yahoo will be doing my web hosting from now on so make sure you change your bookmarks.

I had to get a new clutch installed because my ACT clutch was on it's last leg.  I went with a stock one this time and surprisingly it's able to handle the power of the turbo just fine (this was a money saving move).  It seems like the effort to move the clutch pedal is ten times easier, that's taking some getting used to.  That's it for now...

Happy new year everyone!  Due to popular demand my website is back up.  It has been 8 months since I shut it down and not much with my car has really changed.  I've put a freeze on any modifications so I can concentrate on saving up money.  The mechanics have given my 323 about 6 - 12 months to live.  Anything beyond that is a miracle.  It's really starting to show it's age and my mind is wandering to greener pastures.  A Subaru WRX and a 2003 Yahmaha R6 are on the top of my list right now.

I've compressed this site, compared to the old one, in order to save what little space I have.  Unfortunately I had to cut out the explanations that accompanied the pictures, but maybe in the future it will return.  So in the mean time feel free to email me with any questions or comments if you're confused about what's going on in a certain picture.

The only thing I've updated (besides the look of the site) is the Pictures section.  You can see the aftermath of my car getting broken into an $1300 worth of electronics and gauges stolen.  It's pretty ugly.   During the summer I sold off a ton of stuff on Ebay so now the exterior and interior are pretty much back to stock.

If you've never been here before, welcome.  Have fun looking around and hopefully you'll get some good ideas to use on your 323.

Enjoy,

JC

About This Site

This site is composed of a number or  HTML documents that I hand-coded myself for a computer science class I was taking. I wrote the code in Notepad and transferred the document up to my web directory using FTP.  It wasn't long before I was out of my league, or maybe I got lazy, so I transferred everything to Microsoft FrontPage 2000.

Content

This page is dedicated to my car, a 1988 Mazda 323 SE.  The original owners of this car were my grandparents.  They sold it to me when I first got my license at 16.  When I first got this car in 1994, it had 35,000 miles on it and it was in fairly good condition.  It had been garaged all of its life, well maintained, and aside from a few small scratches and the fact that I didn't know how to drive a stick, it was the perfect car for me.  I just didn't know this at the time.  I originally thought it was a piece of crap.

Well my car managed to survive high school with a handful of speeding tickets and only one accident that totaled the car (where did that red light come from?).  It was still drivable, but barely.   The front end was about a foot off center.  A couple weeks later when my car was parked outside my friend's house, fortune came by and kissed my car. OK, it wasn't really fortune, it was one of those huge city buses.  You know, the really long ones that can bend in the middle.  And it didn't really kiss my car, it demolished it.  Whatever was working before on there wasn't now.  Luckily for me, the City of Seattle has deep pockets.  Deep enough to make my car like new again.  Not brand new but close enough.

Fast forward to the year 2000.  I'm still in college but I got a pretty good job that's paying the bills.  I'm able to save up a little and of course I want to spend it.  What better way than to put it all into my car?  What got the ball rolling was my brother putting 17" rims on his 1994 Acura Integra and then lowering it 2".  I started wondering what could be done to my car?  I had already put a CD player in it, and a co-worker's roommate tints windows, so he hooked me up.  I knew this car had promise.  After a couple months of scouring the internet and car magazines, I had a pretty good idea what aftermarket parts were out there for the 323.  Not many, but enough to keep me busy for a while.  And the rest is history.

Thanks

I would like to thank Derrick Ambrose at Cork Sport for actually having parts for the 323 and being pretty close to my house (three hour drive).  And especially Tommy Huang and the guys at A-Tech Racing Tuner for having the knowledge, tools, ability to get parts, cheap labor costs, and close proximity to my house (three minute drive).  Without from both of these places, none of this would have been possible.

Questions or comments?  Feel free to email me.

Coming soon:  Unfortunately, nothing is planned.
